The arrest of a young man Hardi Yakubu (son of disputed Damongowura Yakubu Gbeadese) by agents of an unknown security agency in Damongo is creating apprehension and anxiety in Damongo with many expressing their views for and against the rambo- style arrest of the youmg man.
However the Savannah Regional Minister Mr Saeed Jibril Muhazu seem to be having an upper hand in terms of comments on social media.
One Abdul-Rahman Demanga wrote; “Less than a fortnight ago, a prominent business executive, the north (arguably) has never seen his kind, was murdered in cold blood in Jirapa over this same allegations of chieftaincy interference.
He said the periodic threats on him (Jirapa Dubimai Owner) were there and open and if national security had taken action against those threats, the man would had been alive today’
Mr Demanga added; “The latest the Savannah Regional minister is not different and national security would have been reckless for not taking action.
He added; “In as much as we can’t support arbitrary use of power, the regional security Council did the right thing in the guys own interest and the overall interest of our image because how are we going to explain ourselves to the rest of the world that we are not primitive for killing a senior most government official on top of a business executive in less than two weeks?”.
Abdul- Rahman Demanga also said, “And we should also understand, not all arrest are meant to punish one, at times it gives one a simulation life experience of what he or she will go through if those threats are executed for one to think twice”.
Hardi Yakubu who is a son of disputed Damongowura Yakubu Gbeadese was been picked by security agents in Damongo on the night of 17th February, 2024 in rambo style. He was picked by members of a security agency not in uniform and using a vehicle without registration number but well armed.
Hardi Yakubu is said to have made audio recordings threatening the Savannah Regional minister and calling him out with vulgar invectives. He has also allegedly consistently accused the Savannah Regional Minister of involving himself in the Damongo Chieftency dispute by supporting one side.
Nkilgi fm has a copy of the audio from Hardi Yakubu and can confirm the insults and threats to the extent he threatened having a physical fight with the Regional Minister.
Meanwhile many others who listened to the audio of Yakubu have condemned him.
An outspoken son of Gonja and the Organiser of the Greater Accra branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association wrote; “After listening to the audio, we have a problem as a youth. The uncultured behavior of some of us is very bad”.
He added; “The action of Hardi Yakubu is purely assault on the minister, and this is a criminal case. The minister has nothing to do with criminal cases. He’s only a complainant in this matter, but the crime is between the State and Yakubu Hardi”.
Mr Jefferson from Damongo also said; “Please let’s together condemn indiscipline among the youth against people in authority or elders. The for warn people against any type of violence should they come out with the vindict. The minister is the property of the state to be threaten by such uncultured behavior of Hadi Yakubu”.
It would be recalled that the King and Overlord of Gonja Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) and his Kingmakers and Counsellors including the Choruwura, Sonyowura, the Ngbaripewura of Damongo, the Kutunkure Clan of Damongo affirmed Chief Kelly Seidu Braimah as the rightful successor to Damongowura Tuntumba Jakpa (I) who passsed on eight years ago.
The affirmed Damongowura Kelly Seidu Braimah was subsequently been introduced to the King and Overlord of Gonja at an event at the forecourt of the Yagbonwura’s Palace on 24th November, 2023.
The decision was reached after eight years of tussle between two sub- Chiefs of the Dangepe gate of Damongo who both laid claim to the skin putting Damongo in a quagmire and without a chief accepted by all.
Following the passing on of Yagbonwura Tuntunba Boresa (I) and the subsequent enskinment of Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I), Chief Kelly Seidu Braimah who was nominated by he Kuntunkure Clan of Damongo had reason to withdraw the Damongo chieftaincy deadlock from the Judicial Committee of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs court which was adjudicating the matter.
To this end, the Yagbonwura and Kingmakers of Damongo and Gonjaland after a series of engagements affirmed Chief Kelly Boresa as the legitimate Damongowura.
The acceptance of Damongowura Seidu Kelly by Yagbonwura and elders should have marked the conclusion of the matter but that has not happened since the family of disputed Damongowura Yakubu Gbeadese are still pursuing the matter. They are demandimg for a Savannah Regional House of Chiefs judicial committee verdict instead of how the Palace of the Yagbonwura handled matter.
