Electoral Commission officials that supervised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) super delegates election in the Savannah Region on 26th August, 2023, ordered for the arrest of the Savannah Region Organiser of the NPP Nana Kwame Aboagye for displaying his ballot at voting center in Damongo.

After the Organiser deliberately flashed his ballot paper to the all gathered at the voting center which shows he voted for Vice- President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, agents of the other candidates protested stating that was against the party’s own code of conduct for the elections resulting in some confusion.

Mr Issahaku Kotomah who is the Deputy Operations Director for Mr Alan Kyerematen’s campaign and who hails from the Savannah region and the othersl agents insisted that the EC must stick to the electoral rules which the EC complied by reading out loudly the NPP’s own regulations on the elections and finally called for the arrest of the Savannah Region Organiser.

While some police officers moved to arrest Nama Kwame Aboagye the Savannah Regional Chairman of the NPP Alhaji Iddrisu Kalamonia, the Secretary Mr Issah Zakaria and other executives made an attempt to stop the arrest.

Speaking to Bole based Nkilgi Fm Mr Issahaku Kotomah said everything was fine at the voting center until the Regional Organiser Nana Kwame Aboagye came and voted and displayed his vote against the guidelines and regulations of our own party we put together and given to the EC then we protested as agents of Alan Kyerematen together with the other eight aspirants agents”.

Mr Issahaku Kotomah added; “And they will not listen and there was a shuffle in there and of course I was involved in the scuffle because I was insisting that the EC invalidates that particular vote as per our own regulations”

Mr Issahaku Kotomah said, “Then the Savannah Regional Chairman of NPP and others were insisting that it the ballot should be counted meanwhile the punishment for that crime is for the Regional Organiser to be arrested by Police and then that particular ballot destroyed”.

The Deputy Operations Director for Mr Alan Kyerematen’s campaign added that; “Then the EC came later on and read out the regulations and fortunately for all of us that they have withheld what we decided as a party to put in the guidelines.

He further said; “So that particular vote from Nana Kwame has duly been invalidated and it will not be counted”.

At the end of the election the ballot of Nana Kwame Aboagye was nullified and the results declared.

Meanwhile Vice- President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had the highest number of votes, which is 19.

Kennedy Agyapong got 7 while Alan Kyerematen and Boakye Agyarko got 1 vote each.

The other candidates didn’t secure any votes.
