The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer for Damongo Constituency in the Savannah Region Hon. Mumuni Yahaya popularly called “Hon Kiyoyo” has said he defeated the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group in the Damongo Constituency at the Kurabaso Junior High School (JHS) new voter registration station in the Damongo town on the first day of Registration on 30th June, 2020.
Speaking to Bole based Nkilgi Fm on the morning show (Kokokilyakoo) on 1st July, 2020 Hon. Mumuni Yahaya Kiyoyo said an unknown Zambarima man was brought from a different constituency by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to register his name in the Damongo Constituency and his party NDC agents protested. According to Mumuni Kiyoyo he got to the Registration centre when the NPP Vigilante team leader Nsowura had already fought with another NDC activist called Calacuta and was beaten up.
“We observed that someone was brought to register and we protested and those vigilante thugs were brought to intimidate us. I was making a call outside the centre and all of the sudden, one Nsowura who is the leader of the NPP group and who fought our agent at the Registration center rushed on me but by God’s grace I was able to floor him. I defeated him just like our agent “; Hon. Kiyoyo told Nkilgi Fm.
He added the vigilante group in Damongo has been given a Thundra Ford pickup for operations and they are moving around the whole Constituency to intimidate constituents especially NDC members.
“Those vigilante thugs have been given a Thundra Ford pickup to intimidate our people in the Constituency for them not to come out and register for their people to get more chances to register. But our people are coming out and they think violence will be the next plan but that will not also work”; Kiyoyo added.
The registration exercise started in Damongo early and was initially going on smoothly till this issue of NPP and NDC disrupted the exercise a little at the Kurabaso JHS premises and was later settled and the registration exercise continued.
