Former President and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has presented some Personal Protective Equipment to the Damongo Catholic Hospital on Friday 10th April, 2020 as part of his support enable frontline health workers to manage coronavirus cases in the facility.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Damongo Constituency Hon. Adam Mutawakilu who presented the items on behalf of former President John Dramani Mahama on Friday 10th April, 2020 said the support is in response to the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s) by health officials hence the former President’s personal support towards the protection of health personnel towards the deadly disease.
Hon. Mutawakilu disclosed to the management of the Damongo Catholic Hospital that their facility is dear to former President Mahama because that is where he was born.
He said this is not the first time the hospital is receiving donations from the outfit of President Mahama and recounted the transformation the hospital had under John Mahama as the Vice- President and President of Ghana respectively when he Hon Adam Mutawakilu was District Chief Excutive (DCE) and later the MP for the area and further assured the authorities of more support from former President Mahama and himself.
The MP for Damongo also used the opportunity to include his personal donation of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE’s) to what the former President is presenting to the hospital.
Receiving the items, the medical Superintendent for the Damongo Catholic Hospital, Mr Vitalis Saadare on behalf of the hospital expressed gratitude to former President Mahama and the MP for Damongo Constituency for their donations and appealed to other bodies to emulate the gesture and support the hospital to manage the pandemic and further appealed for more support from philanthropist and other bodies since what they have in their stock is woefully inadequate should there be a case.
He said the hospital appreciates all that the MP for Damongo has done over the years and still doing for the facility.
Mr Vitalis Saadare used the opportunity to thank the MP for saving lives of snake bite victims when he donated anti-snake venom sometime last year.
The Damongo Catholic Hospital has recorded about 3 suspected cases of the deadly Corvid-19 cases with the results proven to be negative after laboratory tests at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital in Kumasi.
