The Savannah Regional Minister Mr Saeed Muhazu Jibril has disclosed to the people of the Damongo Traditional Area that he has no interest whatsoever on the issues of who becomes the Damongowura (Paramount Chief of Damongo Traditional Area).
Speaking for the first time following a verbal attack on a WhatsApp platform by one Hardi Yakubu, a son of disputed Damongowura Yakubu Gbeadese linking him to be interference of the chieftaincy issues in Damongo, Mr Saeed said as the Savannah Regional Minister said he doesn’t ascend to any throne in the Gonja Kingdom.
Mr Muhazu Saeed Jibril whiles lauching the Business in a Box project by the Ghana Enterprises Agency in Damongo on Tuesday February 20, 2024, said he has never thought about the Damongo chieftaincy dispute and so does not care who becomes the Damongowura.
Ain a video of his speech that has sinsce gone viral, Mr Saeed Jibril added that who ever becomes the Chief of Damongo doesn’t have any linkage directly to him and that nobody should link him to any chieftaincy issue because he is from the Kamara Clan, which is a Muslim Clan in Gonja.
He said the chieftaincy issues in Damongo started even before he became the District chief Executive (DCE) for West Gonja District in 2017.
He said anybody who insults him on the Damongowura issues will surely be punished by God since he has never dreamt of the issues of Damongo chieftaincy disputes.
The Savannah Regional Minister stressed; ”A Frafra man can be enskinned as Damongowura, it is non of my business since I don’t ascend to any throne in the Gonja Kingdom”.
Hardi Yakubu, a son of disputed Damongowura Yakubu Gbeadese was been picked by security agents in Damongo on the night of 17th February, 2024 by security agencies who were not in uniform and using a vehicle without registration number but well armed.
Hardi Yakubu is said to have made audio recordings threatening the Savannah Regional minister and calling him out with vulgar invectives. He has also allegedly consistently accused the Savannah Regional Minister of involving himself in the Damongo Chieftency dispute by supporting one side.
It will be recalled that in 2016, the late Chief of Damongo, Jakpa Lermu Tunrumba Boresa I, passed on, leaving a vacant skin. His siblings, Yakubu Imoro and Kelly Seidu emerged as interested parties to the skin.
The Kuntunre Clan enskinned Mr. Kelly Seidu as Chief of Damongo but the decision was contested by his elder brother, Yakubu Imoro, who subsequently petitioned the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Asulemana Tuntumba Boresa II.
The King later gave his judgement and enskined Mr. Yakubu Imoro as Chief of Damongo, a decision Mr. Kelly Seidu also rejected and went before the Northern Regional House of Chiefs for mediation.
Meanwhile, Overlord of Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii- Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) together with the Choruwura and sonyowura, the Kutunkure Clan and kingmakers of Damongo skins on November 24th 2023 affirmed Damongowura Kelly Seidu Braimah as the rightful successor to Damongowura Tuntumba Jakpa after eight years of dispute.
