The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Daboya- Mankarigu Constituency has accused the Member of Parliament (MP) for Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health Alhaji Mahama Asei Seini of bringinh in hundreds of motorbikes into the Constituency to buy votes in the forthcoming NPP Parliamentary Primaries.

A statement signed by the Sidik Jabaru John (JJ), the NDC Communication Officer for the Daboya- Mankarigu Constituency said; “Three (3) truckload of motorbikes were spotted at his residence in Daboya where the bikes were being offloaded and this is happening at a time when our District is known for hospitals under trees, poor road networks and communication networks, hepatitis B ravaging our people, our health facilities lacking basic medical consumables and many more”.

He stated that; “This is an MP who has nothing to show for the use of his common fund and health insurance fund for the past three years” adding, “It is worth noting that, his predecessor, Lawyer Obei, used similar funds to: renovate several clinics, buy hospital beds for some facilities, buy an ambulance for the Mankarigu zone, offer scholarships for several students, undertake mass hepatitis B screening and Vaccination abd so on”.

Sidik Jabaru John (JJ) further said; “Hon. Alhaji Asei’s interest is not about the welfare of the people but about hanging on to power by all means and at all cost” adding, “What is leadership for, if one cannot solve the basic problems of the people?”.

According to the NDC Communication Officer for the Daboya-Mankarigu constituency they have picked intelligence that the main contender of the MP by name Samuel Tika, who is the Deputy CEO of the Minerals Commission, is also well prepared with ‘gold’ cash and motorbikes for a showdown with the MP Alhaji Asei.

Sidik Jabaru John said; “We wish to call on the Ghana Police to put their men on the grounds to investigate, arrest and prosecute those behind these vote-buying activities and we also call on the Special Prosecutor to investigate their sources of funds”.

He further said; “The Political Parties Law 2000, ACT 574, and The Representation of the People’s Law, 1992, PNDC Law 284 all make engaging in, and buying and selling of votes in any way Punishable by Law”.

The NDC in the Mankarigu Constituency called on the MP of the area, Alhaji Mahama Asei Seini “who has dishonored himself by involving in such illegality to use the little dignity left in him to do the needful by returning all the motorbikes, and use the money to conduct the needed mass hepatitis B screening and vaccination to save lives”.
