The Coordinator for the Ghana National Eggs Campaign Secretariat (GNECS), Ms Comfort Kyerewaa Acheampong has appealed to the general public to ignore all the myths surrounding the eating of eggs and include eggs to all dishes prepared at home since egg eating is very good for the growth of the body.

Speaking at Damongo in the Savannah Region at a one day sensitisation workshop on Thursday 27th October 2022 on the importance of eggs in diets for regional and district Nutritionists and Dieticians under the Ghana Health Service in the Savannah Region, Ms Comfort Kyerewa indicated that contrary to earlier beliefs and assertions that eggs should not be eaten by children and pregnant women and also because of the high level of cholesterol contained in eggs, argued
that researchers have condemned those perceptions, urging the general public to stick to urge consumption.

Egg producers and sellers at a separate sensitisation workshop in Damongo were also taken through the importance of egg eating and the various ways of storing eggs from going bad including the hygienic ways of handling eggs.

Ms Comfort Kyerewa urged the general public to eat eggs and do away with those myths surrounding the eating of the product.

She said;
”Some traditional school of thought believed that feeding children eggs would make them thieves which is never true” she added.

She used the opportunity to call on the government to include eggs in the school feeding program that is ongoing in the country since children are very much disadvantaged.

The Savannah Region Health Nutrition Officer Mr Brian Kamara in an interview thanked Ghana National Eggs Campaign Secretariat (GNECS) for the steps taking in educating the general public on the importance of eating eggs.

Mr Brian Kamara indicated that eggs are very important in the life of every individual especially children, adding that there is no age limit in the eating of eggs.

He said eggs are not only eaten by the rich but the poor as well since it can be added to the stew and soup that is prepared at home for the entire household.

Some of the participants also expressed their joy after learning from the team the importance of eggs especially the safest ways of preserving them for a period of time with some of them asking questions related to egg consumption which the team readily answered them.

Each participant was given an apron to help them in the egg business whilst the egg sellers association Damongo branch was put together with The Coordinator for the Ghana National Eggs Campaign Secretariat (GNECS), Ms Comfort Kyerewaa Acheampong expected to inaugurate it in the coming days.
