The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation has supported some 374 youth with business start-up equipments after undergoing apprenticeship training across the Savannah region under the Young African Works initiative.
The graduands who are into tailoring, hairdressing, barbering and others were each given equipments to aid them start up their own business ventures.
The initiative which was designed by the Ghana Enterprise Agency and MasterCard foundation is geared towards creating opportunities especially for women, girls and the youth by helping in creating dignifying jobs.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Damongo on 7th June, 2022 attended by graduands across the Savannah Region, the Chief Executive officer of Ghana Enterprise Agency, Mrs Kosi Yankey-Ayeh said she was overwhelmed by the number of people who have applied and encouraged many of the youth especially the youth to take advantage of the initiative to help in the creation of jobs in the region.
She appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of the start-up kits by creating jobs for themselves using them and assured them of coming back to assist them grow their businesses once they start using them.
Mrs Kosi Yankey-Ayeh added that women’s economic empowerment was one of the world’s most promising areas of investment, biggest emerging market, and talent pools yet to be tapped.
The Savannah Regional Minister Mr Saeed Jibril Muhazu in a speech said the the government is keen on elevation of poverty which the Ghana Enterprise Agency is leading in helping to eleviate poverty in the region.
He said so far about 1200 has so far been trained which will ensure sustainable job creation.
He added that 95% of the beneficiaries are women who mostly travel to other parts of Ghana for greener pastures which will soon be a thing of the past.

Kalamonia commended the Chief executive officer of Ghana Enterprise Agency for coming to the aid of the graduands.
All Municipal and District Chief Executives across the Savannah region were present at the ceremony.
