The Overlord of the Gonja Traditional area Yagbonwura Tuntunba Boresa (I) has appealed to the people of the newly created Savannah Region to foster unity towards the development and growth of the region.

Speaking at the ‘Savannah Star Awards’ held in the Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Friday 28th Novembe, 2019, Yagbonwura Tutumba preached for peace in the region and urged everybody in the region to contribute his or her quota  meaningfully towards the growth of the Savannah region.
A total of 20 personalities were awarded for their various contributions towards the creation of the region.
The Yagbonwura disclosed that the awards are in three categories namely ‘The Savannah Star Awards’; ‘Yagbon the Saviour Award’ and the ultimate one ‘Jakpa the Conqueror Awards’.

He said several other persons will equally be awarded in the subsequent awards scheduled to take place in the coming months.
Yagbonwura Boresa therefore urged everybody to be patient since he knows the contribution of all and further encouraged especially  students in the region to study very hard since the future of gonjaland and the Savannah Region. He went ahead to call on people in the region to return home to develop the region.

Among the beneficiaries of the awards included the Savannah Regional minister Hon. Salifu Adam Braimah, Dr Achanso Sulemana of the University of Developmen Studies (UDS), Dr ABT Zakariah of UDS, the NPP Chairman for the Savannah Region Alhaji Iddrisu Suleman (Prof Kalamonia), Savannah Region and former Minister of Agriculture Alhaji Limuna Muniru. Others were the former Gender/Children and women Affairs Minister Madam Otiko Afisah Djaba, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bole Madam Veronica Alele Herming, the Registrar of the Gonja Traditional Council Mr Abutu Kapori among others with the highest award given to Lepowura MND Jawula who could not hold back his tears after being handed over his award to him by Yagbonwura Boresa.

Speaking on behalf of  the awardees, former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Limuna Muniru thanked the Overlord for recorganising their efforts and pleaded with chiefs in the region to put aside their political colouration and lift high the name of the Gonja Kingdom since a chief stands for all with politics coming to meet tradition.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Savannah Region Alhaji Iddrisu Suleman (Prof Kalamonia), in an exclusive interview with Bole based Nkilgi FM said many people were awarded because Nana Addo created a region for Gonjas and urged all to vote for the NPP till 2034.
