Nurses at the West Gonja Catholic Hospital in the Savannah Regional capital of Damongo are embarking on a sit down strike beginning today Friday 20th September 2019 resulting in many patients stranded at the facility.

A statement signed by Abdul Karim Issah, Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association at the West Gonja Hospital, Damongo said management of the hospital promised to meet their demands which made them to suspend an earlier strike on 11th July 2019.

The Nurses at the West Gonja Hospital, Damongo say an agreement was reached between the Nurses and the management of the hospital for both the administrator and the matron of the hospital  to immediately step aside after several allegations were levelled against the two by the nurses as the cause of the problems in the hospital.

The two stepped aside but the Nurses are alleging that documents of the facility are still signed by them with the hospital official vehicle still in the possession of the administrator.

Meanwhile Nkilgi Fm has information that the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Damongo constituency, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu is currently locked up in a meeting to Friday 20th September,  2019 to negotiate with the Nurses to rescind their decision.

The first strike embarked on in July 2019 saw the Nurses  raised the issue of denial of study leave by management of the hospital and are concerned management sees no relevance in the course of study chosen by the staff of the hospital.

The Nurses at the West Gonja Hospital see the act to be an attempt by management of the hospital to stifle career choices and progression of staff of the hospital.

The Nurses also alleged that they are denied promotion in the hospital with management failing to meet their demands of a 10% increase in salaries and other allowances as promised.

Management of the hospital are yet to fulfill all that was assured the Nurses hence their decision to embark on the strike today.

The Nurses at the West Gonja Hospital, Damongo say an agreement was reached between them and the management of the hospital for both the aministrator and the Matron of the hospital  to immediately step aside after several allegations were levelled against the two by the Nurses as the problem of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Nurses has assured stakeholders, the general public and their clients of their continous care especially maternal and child health cases as well as emergencies.
