The Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) calls for calm on decentralised offices
The leadership of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) has in recent time noticed the disaffection emanating from some youth of Damongo in respect of the decentralisation of the offices of the Savannah Region Coordinating Council.
We wish to call for calm and urge for support for the smooth implementation of the policy by the Government as it affects all the newly created Regions in the country.
Indeed, this approach is consistent with our earlier arguments for a Region where we clearly stated that as a result of the large size of the old Northern Region prior to the creation of our Region, that the best solution was to spread some institutions across the Region.
Our position was affirmed and made known to everyone in this country by His Excellency Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo-Addo during the presentation of the Legislative Instruments to the King and Overlord of Gonjaland and the people of the Savannah Region at the Jubilee House.
The policy to spread some of the offices of the Region is purely that of the Government and, therefore, we urge all persons to disist from dragging the good name of our King and Overlord Yagbonwura into matters not related to our Traditional Council.
We have come a long way as a people with a common goal, we worked hard together as brothers and sisters and supported the processes in diverse ways leading to the creation of our Region.
The struggle for the Region saw the meaningful contributions and enormous support of all the people in the Region devoid of any differences.
We, therefore, have a dire responsibility to once again demonstrate to our fellow Ghanaians and the world at large that we can work together and support the accelerated development of our new Region with ideas and acts that promote the needed peace for the purpose.
Fortunately and by the grace of the Almighty God, our Region is endowed with abundant natural resources capable of transforming this country as a whole. We have shown these on several platforms as basis during our request for the carving out of our Region from the Northern Region.
Please, be assured that the Hon. Regional Minister, the District Chief Executives, the Gonja Traditional Council, the GLYA and all other stakeholders in the Region are collaborating in order to address all the issues in the Region.
We, therefore, urge all of you to support the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council, the various District Assemblies and the Traditional Council in the Region to deliver the necessary development for our people.
We hope to see a lot more institutions, including polytechnics and universities, being sited proportionally and equitably across the Region and we all need to support such initiatives.
Let us unite as a people in one Region with a common purpose and destiny.
Signed
Lawyer Mohammed Amin Osman
President, GLYA
