The ‘Arise Bole Youth’ group has suspended its planned demonstration, initially scheduled for May 6 and 7, 2025, in protest over the nomination of one Abdulai Mahmoud Mohammed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bole.
A statement signed by the group’s Secretary, Mr. Saaka Abdul-Fatawu Jaaga, the decision to suspend the protest was made “after careful reflection and in utmost deference to the appeals and wise counsel by eminent individuals and institutions including His Royal Majesty Bolewura, the Overlord of the Bole Traditional Area, the Council of State member representing the Savannah Region, Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Abudu Samson, the national executives of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA), the Savannah Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the broader leadership of the NDC in the Savannah Region.”
The group described itself as law-abiding and committed to upholding peace, public order, and respect for traditional authority and democratic processes.
The Arise Bole Youth statement added, “Our initial intention to demonstrate arose from a desire to ensure that the voice of the youth and the people of Bole is heard and reflected in matters of local government. However, we acknowledge that dialogue, mutual respect, and institutional engagement remain the most constructive tools for advancing the common good”.
The group urged its members, supporters, and the general public to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative as respectful consultations continue.
It further reaffirmed its readiness to engage in any legitimate process that promotes unity, transparency, and inclusive development within the Bole Municipality.
Meanwhile a meeting by members of the Bole Municipal Assembly to confirm President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee has been postponed.
A letter signed by the Presiding Member of the Bole Municipal Assembly Hon Adams Dramani Deen stated; “We refer to our letter No.BDA.01/10/16/1, dated 7 May, 2025 and wish to humbly inform you that
the meeting scheduled to confirm the President’s nominee Mr. Abdulai Mahmud has been
postponed”.
The letter said; “The reason is to create ample space for further engagement with the agitated youth of Bole
who have presented a petition against the nomination of the nominee. This action of the youth has created tennsion in Bole town and its environs”.
The letter from the Bole Municipal Assembly that has been copied to various stakeholders including the Member of Parliament foe the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, the Paramount Chief of the BoleTraditional Area, Heads Departments and Agencies further stated that;
“We wish to hereby sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this postponement might have caused
Honourable AssemblyMembers,our revered chiefs, the clergy and the general public.
“New dated for confirmation will be communicated
to you as soon as the engagement is completed.
“Counting on your maximum cooperation in this regard”.
