The King and Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu Soale (I) has appealed to the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng to expedite action in the building of the office complex for the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs since that will be his biggest legacy in the region.
Yagbonwura Bi-Kunuto (I) made the appeal during a working visit by the minister to the residence of the Overlord on Friday 16th February, 2024.
The Overlord of Gonja reminded he minister that the regional House of chiefs have held meetings under trees and at borrowed premises and as president of the House, he made the passionate appeal and the clarion call for pragmatic steps to be taking in the
construction of the office complex.
The Yagbonwura further appealed for the creation of additional traditional councils in the region since out of 22 working paramouncies, only 6 traditional councils have been inaugurated.
He reminded the minister that the creation of the councils will enhance governance and administrative work and effective decentralization of the chieftaincy institution in region.
On the creation and inauguration of more traditional councils, the Minister assured the Yagbonwura that he has authorized the registrar of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs to put together all the traditional councils that are ready for inauguration to be inaugurated as soon as possible since he and the NPP government believes in decentralization.
The minister further assured the Yagbonwura that all legacies the government will leave behind would be credited to the President of Ghana and that the contract for the house of chiefs office complex for the Savannah Region has been signed.
Hon Stephen Asamoah Boateng gave the name of the contractor as Vocan Holding Construction Ltd and the awarded contract which is being spearheaded by Doliwura Zakaria is expected to move to site soon.
He urged the Yagbonwura to always bring him to the right path anytime he goes wrong since he is a son of the region as well.
The Savannah Regional Minister Mr Saeed Muhazu Jibril used the opportunity on behalf of the chiefs and people of the region to thank the minister for the visit to the kingdom.
He appealed to the chiefs in the kingdom to always support the Overlord towards the development of the kingdom.
He appealed further to the youth to always give the needed respect to the chieftaincy institution by avoiding painting the kingdom in bad light especially in the social media since that does not speak well for the image of the region.
Many Paramount Chiefs chiefs of Gonja led by the Sonyowura and the Mankpanwura including Queen mothers and religious leaders in the Savannah Region were in the residence of the Overlord to welcome the minister and his entourage.
