The Kind-Heart Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that supports high-quality rural livelihood on 5th January, 2024, launched a hand-washing programme in the Seripe Community in the Bole District of the Savannah region.

Dr. Mustapha Musah, the foundation’s Executive Director, said; “the campaign exercise is part of the broder Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programme (WASH) activities to educate the people of Seripe on the need to wash their hands with soap under running water before and after meals and visiting places of convenience.”

According to Dr. Mustapha, germs from unwashed hands can spread to other things and then land on the hands of other people stating; “removing germs through handwashing therefore helps prevent preventable respiratory infections and may even help prevent skin and eye infections.”

He stressed the need of maintaining good hygiene, saying that washing your hands frequently with soap and running water is one of the best methods to get rid of germs, stay healthy, and stop the spread of illness to other people. You and your family can stay safe by regularly washing your hands with soap and water, whether you’re at home, at work, on the go, or in public, he reiterated.

Speaking to Bole-based Nkilgi fm, the Community liaison officer on behalf of the Foundation Mr. Kasim Abdulai Nelly stated that the organisation was founded to assist the underprivileged and vulnerable in the Savannah region. He also mentioned that the foundation’s first project, the “Girls in ICT” programme, was carried out in Bole, with the Girls Model School serving as the first beneficiary.

Mr Kassim said the second project was carried out in Nyange, with the goal of educating and raising awareness among young adolescent girls about the value of menstrual hygiene and the use of sanitary pads to aid them during their periods.

The handwashing, hygiene, and sensitization programme held in Seripe, according to Mr. Kasim Abdulai Nelly, was the third significant initiative launched by the Kind-Heart Aid Foundation in the Savannah Region. Its main focus is on the necessity of maintaining clean lifestyles. He mentioned that maintaining good hand hygiene was crucial to encouraging a high-quality lifestyle.

He said the Kind-Heart Aid Foundation will eventually extend its operations to the remaining districts in the Savannah region and will start up further education and sensitization campaigns in other areas of the Bole District.

Mr. Kotomah Yahaya, a programme beneficiary, acknowledged the outstanding services of the Kind-Heart Aid Foundation and praised them for their community sensitization campaign. He underlined the necessity and significance of these kinds of community outreach and education. He continued by saying that other NGOs had been brought in to help them build household lavatories, therefore the Kind-Heart Aid Foundation’s handwashing campaign was appropriate because it supported the work of other community-development organisations.

Kotomah Yahaya pledged that those who benefited from the education and sensitization about handwashing cleanliness will take action to inform those in the community who were unable to participate in the programme.
