The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency Mr Jacob K. Domakawe has inaugurated area councils in the district.

The initiation inauguration took place over the week in five demarcated areas in the entire district.

In all, five town councils were inaugurated in the district namely Senyeri, Gindabor, Tuna, Sawla and Kalba town councils.

The initiative was the first of it’s kind to have happened in the district ever since it was carved out of the Bole district some years ago.

Speaking at the sideline of the program, the DCE Mr Jacob K. Domakawe explained that the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly was lacking far behind in terms of development since the District Assembly Common Funds were no longer coming regularly and timely as it was in the past.

This, according to him has made the district assembly to struggle to implement some key developmental projects and also to complete some projects started by his predesesors.

He said as a new DCE who came to complete somebody’s tenure, he realized they were a lot of communities which were lacking developmental projects to improve the lives of the people.

The DCE for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District therefore used the opportunity to tasked the assembly members and their unit committee members to initiate innovative mechanisms to mobilized resources to help develop their electoral areas and the district in general.

On how to raise revenue for the district, the Deputy Coordinating Director Pantabwura Osman listed some avenues where revenues could be generated to support the assembly.

He said there are a lot of charcoal burning and buying activities in almost all the communities and that the task force could consider collecting some monies from them.
Again, cattle buyers and producers could also be taxed to support the council develop the communities.

Also, store owners, market men and women and petty traders are taxable.

Furthermore, he tasked them to also consider registering chain saw operators in the communities in order to facilitate their activities and also raise revenue from them.

Finally, the District Coordinating Director asked all members to collaborate with their chiefs to consolidate their efforts in raising revenues for the district.
