The Star Ghana Foundation Northern Manager, Mr Arron Atinpe has said that an initial survey conducted by North Code indicates that most of the Youth in Bole District are engaged in small Scale mining activities because they don’t have any alternative economic activities.

He added that the Bole District is one of the vulnerable districts in Ghana due to the geographical location, coupled with galamsey activities.

Mr Arron Atinpe made these comments during a consultation engagement meeting on Dry Season Vegetable Cultivation project, held at the Bole District Assembly Conference Hall on the 12th March 2024. The meeting was organized by the Bole District Assembly in partnership with North Code Ghana with funding from Star Ghana Foundation.

The Star Ghana Foundation Northern Manager, said the Dry Season Vegetable Cultivation Project, in the Bole District are two fold, the first being an advocacy and sensitisation aspect in which they are working with communities to build their capacity. He said the second face of the project is the livelihood support which include construction of fence gardens in communities or localities within the Bole District in which irrigation farming is taking place, and the intention is to use that as a preventive measure to ensure that young people have access to alternative sources of livelihood so that it sways them away from getting lured into illegal mining which exposes them to attempts by terrorists and other criminal networks to recruit them into their fold.

Mr Arron Atinpe said the interventions in Bole seeks to address insecurity and violence extremism and to address the challenge, there was the need for a livelihood empowerment program for the youth.

The project package according to him include a 35 by 35 fenced vegetables garden for group or an individual, with watering equipment and that the contractor will construct 40 units for the entire Bole District.

In her opening remarks, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bole, Madam Veronica Alele expressed her graitude to Star Ghana Foundation Ghana, North Code Ghana and all stakeholders for chosing Bole District for the Dry Season Vegetable Cultivation Project.

She tasked all stakeholders to embrace project adding that; “as a development oriented person, it is always my wish to see visible projects that seeks to alleviate poverty and address the issues of Youth unemployment”.

She was full of of joy and promised to take key interest in the project see it successful implementation.
