The General Manager of Bole based Nkilgi Fm and former PRO of the Gonjaland Youth Association Mahama Haruna has been honored with the “Media Personality of the Year” at the 6th Edition (2024 Northern Excellence Awards) which took place on the 9th March, 2024 at ‘Aisha Homes’ in the Northern regional capital, Tamale. He becomes the first from the Savannah Region to recieve an award un that category.
The Northern Excellence Awards (NExA) which is the most prestigious Northern Ghana origin awards, celebrates outstanding personalities in the academia, politics, civil society groups, philanthropist and traditional leaders who have impacted positively in the socioeconomic wellbeing of individuals and the society.
A message of special recognition to Mahama Haruna as ‘the Media Personality of the Year’ signed by Mr Abdul- Latif Alhassan (Executive Director) Celebrities Charity Development Foundation and Miss Teefa Npanko Fuseini (Co- Founder, Nothern Excellence Awards) reads;
“This is to acknowledge your diligent reportage and tireless dedication to adorning the challenges faced by people of the Savannah Region. You are a beacon of hope and a voice for the voiceless. Your unwavering commitment to shining light on important issues and advocating for positive change has inspired many across the Savannah Region and beyond”.
The message of special recognition further said; “We commend you for your invaluable contributions to journalism and for making a lasting difference in the lives of so many. NExA is proud of your achievements”.
It stated; “On this day we honor you as the NExA2024 Media Personality of the Year”.
Speaking after receiving his award Mahama Haruna said as a media man, he was not working for an award but reporting and writing to address the challenges faced by the people of the Savannah Region. He said he has done many social impact stories and has engaged in many interventions in the lives of people in the Savannah Region and for the Northern Excellence Awards to recognise his effort out of the five regions of the North means they are very credible.
Meanwhile Mahama Haruna has dedicated his award to a late Presenter of Nkilgi Fm Jason Jajah who passed on 24th February, 2024.
Mahama Haruna said Jason Jajah was very instrumental in some of the stories that shown light on important issues, making an invaluable contributions to journalism in the Savannah Region May His Soul Rest In Peace”.
