The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana who is also the Ranking member of the Trade, Industry and Tourism committee has stated that voters in the Ashanti region cannot be swayed into voting for the NPP simply because of the choice of a running mate from that region because the people are not stupid.
Hon Yusif made these comments on Joynews morning show monitored by Bole based Nkilgi Fm on 8th December, 2023.
This was after the host of the show, Benjamin Akakpo opined that suggestions from the camp of the NPP has it that Alhaji Bawumia’s running mate will be from the Ashanti region which in his opinion will help significantly consolidate the gains of the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections in that region.
The Bole-Bamboi MP disagreed with that school of taught by indicating that, the mere selection of a running mate from the Ashanti region by Alhaji Bawumia can’t sway the people in that region because they will ask whoever is chosen the contributions of the NPP to the growth and development of the Ashanti region since it assumed power in 2017. He added that “the value will be the same” no matter where the running mate will come from because they have failed Ghanaians.
He also mentioned that the NDC under H.E John Dramani Mahama ensured that the Ashanti region got its fare share of the national cake by providing the region with a Modern Kejetia market, several road projects, health facilities, water systems and many educational infrastructure unlike the Nana Addo/ Bawumia government which has done very little in the Ashanti region even though it is their strong hold. This in his opinion will be the deciding factor for voters in the Ashanti region and not the mere fact that a running mate is coming from that region.
