A final year Science Student of the Yendi Senior High School (SHS) from Mpaha in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region met his untimely death in an armed robbery attack on the Mpaha to Mankpang road in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah region.
The student whose name has been given as Abdul-Basit was returning home after his last paper when the vehicle he was travelling in was attacked by armed men suspected to be Fulani.
According to information picked by Bole based Nkilgi FM, Yakubu Fatawu who is the driver of the vehicle, a Benz bus with registration No. GR 4336 D with unspecified number of passengers on board were traveling from the Buipe market to Mpaha on Monday 6th September, 2020 and on reaching a section of the road in between Mankpan and Ajorpe, the driver spotted two men suspected to be of Fulani extraction hiding in the nearby bush.
One of them armed with a shotgun suddenly came out from the bush and shot into the windscreen but the driver managed to knock the armed man down, killing him instantly whilst the other fled through the bush.
But in the process the driver lost control of the steering wheel and the vehicle fell in the middle of the road.
Many of the passengers on board sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment by the Central Gonja District Ambulance. Abdul- Basit who was in the bus died on the way to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Abdul Basit after completing the Yendi Senior High School on Saturday 5th September 2020 joined a bus from the Buipe market heading towards his home town of Mpaha and met the attack by the two armed robbers leading to his untimely death.
He has since been buried at his hometown Mpaha on 7th September, 2020 and present at the burial ceremony was the Police Inspector of the Mpaha area.
Meanwhile, the body of the suspected Armed robber has been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary with a shotgun, 3 BB live cartridges and one spent cartridge found in his possession.
The accident vehicle has also been towed to the Buipe Police Police Station.
