Budding media and publishing company, Rudder Communications (RudCom), has launched the 2020 edition of its annual human capital development project.
Dubbed “The 100 Most Influential Personalities From Northern Ghana” (The 100 MIPs), the project seeks to promote literacy and entrepreneurship amongst young people from the Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern and the Savannah Regions of Ghana.

First launched in 2019, the project nominates 200 personalities across ten different careers or professions and asks the public to vote for their favourite 100 whose biographies are later published in the 100 MIPs magazine.

“Specifically, the project seeks to use the success stories of natives of Northern Ghana who are excelling or have attained some high level of success in their careers to inspire school children and other young people to also dream big. It also seeks to ignite the interest in entrepreneurship amongst the youth of Northern Ghana through the inspiring success stories of some of the personalities”, Executive Director of RudCom, Joseph Ziem said in a news release issued on Thursday July 15, 2020 in Tamale to signal the launch of the 2020 edition.

“We believe this project will go a long way to boost the literacy level amongst young people vis-à-vis reading, comprehension and their ability to write effectively. Besides, understanding how each of these personalities made it in life, would also boost their level of confidence to enable them to dream of anything they so desire to achieve in life”.

Joseph Ziem, who is also chief editor of Savannah News, personally considers the project as another means by which successful well-meaning natives of the north could contribute their little towards the empowerment of the minds of young people from their communities.

The 100 MIPs project is not an award scheme and neither is it a rating tool to classify achievers and non-achievers. Nonetheless, it recognizes the successes and achievements of the best human resources who hail from Northern Ghana.

To be considered for nomination, a person must have excelled or is successful in their chosen career or profession; must have made significant progress to the top of their career when compared to their peers; or must have made significant impact in the lives of other people or the community they hail from.

By this launch, voting has started and the public are expected to vote for their favourite personalities between now and the end of August. The public are expected to dial a common short code (365366#) which is recognized across all telecommunication networks to vote. A vote cost 0.50p and any member of the public can vote as many times as they want for their favourite nominee or nominees.

There are 10 categories under the project. They are Education, Sports, STEM, Agribusiness, Politics and Governance, Health and Wellness, Finance and Entrepreneurship, Media and Law, Arts and Lifestyle, and Humanitarianism and Diplomacy. Each category has at least 20 nominees.

According Joseph Ziem, by the end of the public voting, a list of the top 100 most influential personalities would be published. “Those who will make it to the list of 100 personalities will be interviewed by our biographers. Their biographies will be published in the 100 MIPs magazine so that they can buy enough copies and donate them to their former schools or schools in communities they hail from.

“We believe this concept by RudCom and its subsidiary SavannahNewsOnline.Com would make a lot of difference in the lives of our younger siblings who are still in JHS and SHS or completed. Majority of those in school don’t often get the opportunity of having someone who’s ahead of them in life to advise them on what subjects or courses to read in order to help them properly decide on their future profession or career. And we’re certain that the biographies of each of the personalities would greatly influence our younger ones positively to decide which career path to chart, what challenges to expect in their life journey and how they can overcome such challenges among others”, he pointed out.
