Residents of Sawla in the Savannah Region have expressed their indignation over the “sexual assault” allegation on the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Director for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Mr Mahama Sakara.
A Nurse Miss Doreen Smith working at the at Soma CHPS Compound in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District has petitioned the NHIA to investigate the Mr Mahama Sakara, for what she said is “Sexual assault”.
The Nurse said Mr. Sakara had come to her CHPS compound under the guise of “monitoring” but turned around to make Sexual advances at her.
She said even though Mr. Sakara did not succeed in having sexual intercourse with her, he fingered her in the process of struggling with him when the advances became intense.
Doreen says she has since reported the issue to the police and the District Health Directorate and has added an audio recording of the incident.
However residents of Sawla described the Nurse as “deceitful” and “diabolic” because she has been in a relationship with Mr Sakara which members of the community know.
Nkilgi FM enquiries say Mr Mahama Sakara is known to be strict and straightforward and has consistently insisted on the right of way doing things and has had brushes with Health authorities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District District.
Further enquiries indicate Mr Sakara Mahama once reported the lady nurse in the centre of the controversy for extortion of money from poor residents of the Soma who visit Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHIPS) compound even though he was dating the nurse.
Our source say the nurse Miss Smith has not forgiven Mr Sakara for embarrassing her and so lured him to her CHIPS compound just to record him.
Many are of the view that the audio in circulation should have been released to the Police but not made public and that the action of the lady confirms she and her unknown accomplices embarked on a well planned destructive agenda by setting a “trap” for Mahama Sakara just to tarnish his image.
Speaking on Bole based Nkilgi Fm, Mr Hussein Alhassan of Sawla said the two have been lovers which everyone is aware of in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district.
“The two of them have been lovers which everyone here knows. That particular girl was my friend’s girlfriend who Mr. Sakara snatched. If anyone ask, you can tell him or her I said it. But I cannot say why the lady recorded Sakara, but we know they are lovers”; Mr Alhassan said.
Most callers into Nkilgi FM especially the ladies lambasted ladies are fond of recording men during sex with some made reference to the National security minister’s video which was recorded by a lady and shared viral.
“I swear some of our ladies in Ghana here have turned to something else nowadays. Just some few months back the recorded a whole national security minister to just tarnished his reputation for nothing, which is not good”; the caller said.
Other callers were of the view that “the issue is politically motivated”.
They lambasted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Officer for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Emmanuel Wellah for quickly taking the issue to social media.
“How can you this boy calling himself an NPP Communication officer for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency take this matter to social media to tarnish Mr Sakara’s reputation just because you think he is an NDC member and nees to be punished. It is clear NPP want Sakara removed and only used the Nurse for that agenda?”; a caller into Nkilgi FM said.
The NPP in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency said they are shocked over what it says is an embarrassing news of an alleged sexual harassment of Madam Doreen Smith by a leading member of the NDC in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Mr Mahama Sakara who doubles as the Health Insurance manager.
The NPP in a statement signed by the Communications Director for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency said, “the party is saddened by the shameful act metted out to the nurse who has been posted from Accra to render her service to our people in the rural community as ours”.
“We extend our solidarity to her immediate family and particularly her husband and children. We in the NPP stand for women and the vulnerable against these acts”; the statement added.
The NPP said; “The party, solidarize with her, and calling on all state holders who matter in her case to help her achieve the needed justice she deserves”.
Mr Sakara was a known National Democratic Congress (NDC) kin pin in the area and has faced series of harassments since the NPP took over even though he has been careful and only concentrating on his work. Nkilgi FM has laid hands on a number of petitions from NPP Executives and Activist calling for his removal as the Director of the NHIS for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.
Mr Sakara Mahama has not officially reacted to the issue. When Bole based Nkilgi FM contacted him he simply said “there is more to the issue and I will come out with my side of the story at the right time. For now I’m just following orders of my superiors”.
