The main market and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) lorry station in the Savannah Regional Capital of Damongo has been fumigated.

The fumigation exercise started at exactly 4:00pm on Tuesday 24th March, 2020 with the Market women, Shop owners complying with the exercise.

The one-day closure is in-line with measures spelt out by government to contain the spread of the deadly  COVID 19.
Speaking exclusively to Nkilgi FM, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Hon. Saeed Jibreel Muhazu said the exercise is very important since it is his duty as the MCE to make sure preventive measures are put in place to prevent the disease from entering into the Municipality.

He said the fumigation exercise will continue in the Municipality especially at the lorry stations with all passenger  vehicles earmarked to undergo fumigation including the Saturday Market.

The Municipal National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director Mr Adam Bavug in an interview with Nkilgi FM explained that after the major places in Damongo, communities like Busunu and Larabanga will be fumigated as well in the coming days. He praised God for the region not recording any case but continued to preach to the people to continue to live preventive lives in other not to contract the disease
Both the Police and Military supervised the exercise with the Damongo Market, lorry station and main street becoming virtually empty before, during and after the exercise.

Meanwhile, the Damongo Catholic Hospital is expected to be fumigated on Thursday.
