The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bole Madam Veronica Alele Heming has commissioned a 200,000 cashew nursery at Sonyo to be distributed to the people of Bole District of Savannah Region under the government’s flagship policy planting for export and rural development.
Speaking to Bole based Nkilgi Fm at Sonyo during the short ceremony, Madam Veronica Alele said the District Assembly collaborates with the Agriculture department every year to get cashew seedlings for farmers. She thanked the Ghana Safety Net project for financing the labour of the women who helped in nursing the Cashew and also thanked the Agric department of the Assembly for doing a good job in making sure the seedlings are ready for the farmers.
“Every year we try in getting cashew seedlings for our farmers. In 2018, we were able to get 100,000 seedlings for our farmers. In 2019 we again nursed 200,000 seedlings and this year 2020, we are done with 150,000 and still preparing 50,000 seedlings; the DCE said.
She further explained thar though the seedlings will be distributed for free to cashew farmers in the Bole District, all those interested should make their ready or cleared and that no farmer should come for seedlings because they will be going round to inspect whether those who have come for the seedlings have planted them.
The Bole District Director of Agriculture Alhaji Ibrahim Mumuni encouraged the farmers who would benefit from the project under the Government’s flagship policy “planting for export and rural development” to plant it and benefit from it one day. He said the farmers should not allow the government’s efforts to be in vain.
A beneficiary farmer from Gbogdaa Mr John Bosco Kenyiri thanked the DCE and the Agriculture Director for their tireless effort in getting this good initiative from the government for their District and also called on his colleagues farmers to pass through the Bole District Agriculture Directorate to have their seedlings.
The DCE Madam Veronica Alele Heming whose father hails from Sonyo met with her childhood friends who expressed joy for seeing her and sung local songs to praise her.
