A group of unidentified men, suspected to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have today 20th July, 2025, reportedly taken over operations at the Sawla axle weighing station along the Wa road in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
Eyewitnesses claim the group, described as heavily built, said they were acting on instructions from higher authorities within the party.
They accused the station’s operators of corruption, citing malfunctioning weighing machines and the continued use of a manual system for collecting fees.
While no physical harm has been reported, staff of the axle station have been displaced and are currently outside the premises, monitoring the situation as the alleged NDC group continues operations.
Bole based Nkilgi FM reached out to Mr. Kipo Elijah Bakari, Deputy Security Liaison Officer for the Savannah Region, who declined to comment in detail but noted that steps are being taken to resolve the situation.
Efforts are ongoing to contact the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and the Sawla Police Commander for an official response.
