The National Youth Authority in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), AFCFTA has organised a 2-Day training for over 20 youth in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District on Wednesday 2nd October and Thursday 4th October, 2024 under the Theme “Youth Entrepreneurship Training Program for AFCFTA Opportunities.

Speaking to Bole based Nkilgi fm, the National Director of programes at the National Youth Authority Mr. Archibald Donkoh said the purpose of the training is to upskill young entrepreneurs with the needed knowledge and skills for them to manage their businesses and also take advantage of the opportunities the AFCFTA presence basically.

He said the training is being implemented in 20 Districts across country 10 Regions and so in the Savannah Region, they have two regions that has been selected to be part of the training which is made up of 20 participants.

He added that their main focus is basically from young women, though they have participants who are men.

The National Director of programes at the National Youth Authority Mr Archibald Donkoh said the purpose of said when they look at the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME’s) landscape, there are about 45% been owned by young people aged between 15 and 35 and they think that Entrepreneurship more or less is the key solution to unemployment in Ghana.

He added that their idea is to empower young entrepreneurs who are running some of the micro businesses to have the needed skills for them to sustain their businesses and see how best they can trade beyond their communities which is the main purpose of the African Continental Free Trade Area(AFCFTA).

Mr. Archibald Donkoh said the purpose of said the Secretariat is based in Ghana which is in Accra and as young people, they should take it as an advantage to see how best they can make good use of the opportunities AFCFTA presence to them.

He said the beneficiaries has been taken through topics like customer service,branding,marketing,booking keeping and also been educated on AFCFTA protocols,operations and the requirements need for them to participate in that space.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency Mr Jacob K. Domakaweh was very excited to receive officers from the National Youth Authority.

He said their mission is to give them a training program that’s going on for the youth.

The DCE for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District added that he has alot of youth in his District who are unemployed and there are alot of youth who has finished school and there is no job for them.

Mr Jacob K. Domakaweh urged the youth to take advantage of the program and most of them will come out and do things on their own.

He said with that training, most of them will be able to take good care of their families.
