In an Open New Year message to the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) Mufti Habibu has called the Overlord to consider a number of issues for a smooth running of his Palace.
Mufti Habibu speaking in an individual capacity first of all called the Yagbonwura to use Committees of Chiefs to resolve Chieftaincy, land and other issues in that are brought befire him. He said this will forestall how some people run to court to challenge the Palace of the Yagbonwura at every little opportunity.
He also called on the Yagbonwura’s Palace to stop adjudicating cases on petty issues and rather refer those cases to his subordinate Chiefs. He said the Jakpa Palace is bigger than some of the cases that are being adjucated.
He further called the Yagbonwura to investigate the reason for Paramount Chiefs of Gonja staying mute at his meetings of the Gonja Traditional Council.
Mufti Habibu entreated the Yagbonwura to put his ears on the ground on why anytime Gonja Chiefs are seated with him at meetings and he throws any issue to them, they all keep quite. According to Mufti Habibu there is a reason for the Paramount Chiefs refusal to make any contribution at meetings.
The Gonjaland Youth Association PRO suggested to the Yagbonwura not to sideline any Chief and Traditional people of Gonja and entreated the Yagbonwura to involve everyone in the performance of their traditional roles. He cited the case of the Kuntunkure Clan of Damongo that was sidelined during the reign of the late Yagbonwura Tutumba Bore Esa (I) because of a dispute over the Damongo Chieftaincy skin.
On the Jakpa Palace and politicians the Gonjaland Youth Association PRO called on the Yagbonwura to let politicians especially those from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) use Gonja Traditional systems to deal with the Jakpa Palace.
He said the politicians are always doing whatever they will do to please their leaders, that is, former John Dramani and Dr Mahamadu Bawumia but not to please the Jakpa Palace.
He said the Yagbonwura must be steadfast in dealing with politicians since they will not hesitate to belittle him for the sake of politics.
He asked if the Gonja Politicians dont go to Palaces of other Chiefs and see how the systems work?
In a write up accompanying a video in which Mufti Habibu made the comments, he said; Jirah (Yagbonwura), I remember vividly, from events leading to your enskinment to assume the ultimate power of our Kingdom, came with sacrifices, commitment, and the desire to see Kigbanye (Gonja) returns to its days of glory. It was also the singular dream of many well-meaning Kijakpana (People from Gonjaland) to see our land revered beyond, which served us the motivation to make many gave thier all.
Mufti Habibu futher wrote; “Jirah (Yagbonwura), upon the many sacrifices of some well-meaning persons of your subjects, I had the opportunity to work closely with you in your palace, which is of great attainment to any living progeny of Jakpa. Amidst all these shiny privileges that are inherent to working at the Royal Palace, I declined to work at the palace, not for bad reasons, but that’s just one weird thing about me (Maybe I’m just so attached to the streets, because on the streets where I serve, we aren’t fake and there’s nothing like superiority”.
