Nasco Feeding Minds a non governmental organisation (NGO) in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah region with it’s partners organized a forum on adverse effects of climate change in Ghana.

The program took place at the Awusi Lodge in Sawla on 16th December, 2023.

Speaking at the workshop to the gathering,
the Executive Director of Nasco Feeding Minds, Mr. Banasco Seidu Nuhu said, the effects of Climate change has become a source of concern because of the effects it poses to the atmosphere.

He added that Ghana has now been ranked 8th in Africa with the depletions of it’s ozone layer from the activities of emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

According to Mr Banasco Seidu Nuhu, apart from natural causes such as volcanoes eruptions and others, Human activities such as cutting down forests, Commercial charcoal burning, generating electricity and heat by burning fossil fuels, using of firewood for cooking, toxic gas emisaions from vehicles and motors cycles, bad agriculture practices are some of the actions of human beings that contribute to climate change.

He advised that, some human activities can be reduced or stop by changing our attitude towards the causes of climate change by
changing our home’s source of using firewood for cooking, Walk, bike or take public transport. He said we should all consider travelling schedules and good agronomic practices by using
non toxic chemicals and fertilizers on farms.

Mr Banasco Seidu Nuhu disclosed that his outfit in the district has formed various school clubs on advocacy for management of climate change, he said, these students are encouraged and educated on the importance of climate change and tree planting.

The workshop was graced by revered Chiefs in Savannah region including the Paramount Chief of Kong TraditionalAreaofGonja, Kongwura Seidu Jinkurge, a representative of Sawlawura among others, as well as, Assembly members in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district, Fire Service staffs, personnel of the Agriculture Department and students drawn from various Schools in the district.
