The Overlord of Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II has donated 100 bags of maize to victims of the Buipe flood in the Central Gonja of the Savannah Region.
The donation which was presented on behalf of the Dagbon overlord to the Yagbonwura on Thursday November 23,2023 through the gonjaland youth Association.
The food items were later handed over to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) through the the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Gonja District Mr Salia Iddrisu for onward distribution to the victims.
The King and Overlord of Gonja Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) on his part thanked the Ya- Na for the support and called on other bodies to come to the aid of the victims.
Meanwhile, Ya- Na Abubakari has also donated some food items to the people of Mepe in the Volta Region.
The items included 300 bags of maize, 100 bags of 50kg rice, and 400 tubers of yam for the Mepe flood victims.
A speech read on behalf of the Ya- Na by the Chief of Zangbalun, Naa Dr Yakubu (II), described the situation as both pathetic and worrying.
He said schools and clinics have submerged leading to the suspension of education and the lack of basic but essential medical services.
“The sheer number of people displaced is staggering,” the Dagbon Overlord said.
He called on government and corporate Ghana to continue to support the victims.
He further said;
”We also call on the relevant ministries to tackle the situation holistically as this extend along the Volta River up to the north especially the Savannah region.
The Ya- Na explained that the flooding of Buipe is almost perennial and must be solved once and for all.
”This continuous yearly loss of properties by the residents is unacceptable and we need to act now and avert a repetition of it come next year,” the Dagbon Overlord added.
