The Tuna Assemblies Of God Child and Youth Development Centre on Friday, April 28th, 2023, organised a Community durbar to instill awareness of Child protection issues in the Tuna community.

The durbar among other things was meant to sensitise the community on Child protection prevalent within the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district, especially on child labour, early marriage, teenage pregnancy and others issues.

The durbar also sought to educate the community members on the importance of protecting the child from harm and promoting their welbeing.

It was also used to mobilise the community members to take action towards preventing and addressing child protection issues in Tuna by forming a child protection committee.

The Project Director for the centre, Mr Ezekiel Sadick stated that, the Tuna Assemblies of God Child and Youth development has three (3) staff (child development workers) and (13) thirteen volunteers that help in the operation of the centre. He added that, the centre was officially established on March 1st, 2022.

He bemoaned how difficult it would be for only parents to protect their children, since they were the future of the Tuna community, therefore, the responsibility rest on the community to raise it’s own children.

Ezekiel Sadick quotimg an unknown author that “if you want to know the kind of leaders a community have, look at the way they treat their children” hence we would be great leaders if we treat our children well by protecting them from harm of all kind.

The Social welfare officer of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district, Mr Saaka Blaise, stressed on what Mr Ezekiel Sadick said by demonstrating with a man and a woman called to the stage, he again called a child to join the man and the woman on the stage to stand in front of them. He asked the adults to not let the child run away but was quick to tell the child to do his best and run from the adults, the child succeeded in running away but when he called on more adults to the stage, collectively, they formed a circle to stop the child from running away this time.

Meanwhile, some of the Community members of Tuna who paticipated in the program expressed joy after getting many information about education to child rights and the need to protect children for the future betterment of the Tuna enclave.

The program was honoured by Tunawurche, the Tuna East Assembly man, representative of Tunawura Sarfo Amantana and Traditional leaders of Tuna, front line Church partners and a Resource person from the social welfare department of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district.
