The Paramount chief of the Busunu Traditional area of Gonja, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu (II) has celebrated his first anniversary and Annual Damba in Busunu in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region on Saturday 7th November, 2020.
The Busunuwura launched the Busunuwura Education Fund to help promote an education endowment fund in the Busunu traditional area and also help the poor but brilliant students in the area.
Busunuwura Jonokpowu in an address read on his behalf by Chief Frawu- wura appealed to the people of the Busunu traditional area to continue to sustain the unity and peace enjoyed in the area over the one year he was enskinned as the chief of the Busunu traditional area.
He said in a political season like Ghana is on now, there is a very high tendency of division amongst the people on political lines which he advised should not happened since the people can support their various political parties and still remain one in most of the things they do.
He added that one of the key focus of the Busunu traditional area is education promotion and establishment of a Senior High School in the area which he made a passionate appeal to President Nana Akufo Addo to help his traditional area get one.
The Busunuwura also assured the people gathered at the forecourt of his palace to witness the anniversary ceremony that his arms are opened to all well- meaning persons and group of persons for the good of the area since accelerated development in the area is his major priority as the paramount chief of the area.
The Busunuwura education endowment fund which was launched during the anniversary ceremony by the representative of the guest of honour Rev. Father Daniel Fuseini Saaka has an interim management team of 5 membership who will be steering the affairs of fund.
Most Reverend Peter Paul Y. Angkyier, Catholic Bishop of Damongo in a speech read on his behalf, commended the Busunuwura and his people for initiating the Fund and described it as not only pertinent but also significant for human development.
“This Fund will help ameliorate the human resource (the bedrock of growth) in this part of the municipality and therefore all must endeavor to contribute immensely for its successful implementation”; the Catholic Bishop said.
Mr K. K Ntoba, a retired educationist who was Chairman of the occasion said the Busunuwura Education Fund is an initiative that looks to the future and seeks to complement the government’s efforts in providing the poor beneficiaries with the requisite capacity and tools for development and survival.
He therefore appealed to the government, well-wishers, philanthropists, corporate organisations and individuals to support the Fund by contributing towards the growth of it since many of the youth will benefit from it.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishop for the Damongo diocese Most Rev.
Peter Paul Angkyier has contributed an amount of Ghc1,500 to the Busunuwura education endowment fund with the Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency Hon. Adam Mutawakilu also contributing Ghc 2,000 to the fund and as well made a promise of contributing Ghc Ghc5,000 every year into the fund.
A Deputy Chief of Staff and parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Damongo Constituency Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor also contributed an amount of Ghc 3,000 to the fund with President Nana Akufo Addo also contributing Ghc10,000 to the fund as announced by the Deputy Chief of staff.
Mr Jinapor also assured the chiefs and people of the area that construction work on the Busunu Senior High School in will soon commence.
