The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has named the most listened radio station in the Savannah Region, Nkilgi FM as the Best radio station for the Region in the year 2019.
The award was given at the 25th GJA Awards held on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
The 2020 GJA awards, which award deserving Journalists and media houses was on the theme “Covid-19 and Credible Presidential and Parliamentary elections: The Media Factor.
The GJA Awards for Best Regional Radio Stations across the sixteen Regions of the country seek to recognise outstanding achievements in the radio industry in Ghana. It is a credible, well-judged transparent programme that promotes and recognises excellence in the Radio industry, with the objective of ensuring that radio remains one of Ghana’s foremost media choices.

Nkilgi FM located in Bole was established in 2016 and has engaged the topmost radio presenters in the Savannah Region. The Radio station has churned out good socio- political programmes capturing massive listenership in the Bole and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Districts as well as parts of the West West Gonja Municipality, Central Gonja, North Gonja Wa West (Upper West), Banda (Bono) and Kintampo North (Bono East) Districts.
Nkilgi Fm mostly broadcast in the languages of the area with some programmes in English and therefore has a vibrant audience participation across. The Radio station has been applauded for it’s continuous commitment to good Radio broadcasting and dedication to covering stories the way they are, ensuring that the people have a right to be informed and has given a voice to the voiceless.
Nkilgi FM is well-noted for running many social and community stories and has won the ‘Story Of the Year’ Award at the Hyperlink Media Awards 2019 with the story of how a Snake Bite Primary School Pupil of Tailorpe Primary School in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region was saved from near certain death by Nkilgi Fm.
The Radio station has used its large listening audience to push communities to act on environmental issues and has mobilised the people to embark on self help projects.
