The Executive Secretary to the Managing Director for Ghana Water Limited Mr Issifu Seidu Kudus has advised the Damongo constituency NPP to stop talking about the Damongo Alternative Water Supply project since the member of parliament for the Damongo constituency Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor and the NPP should have commissioned it once they claim the project was completed.
Responding to a Press Conference addressed by the Damongo constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Abdul Rahman Kadiri on the non-commissioning of the project situated in the Broto community of the Damongo Constituency, Mr Kudus who described the project as an Artesian Well indicated that
the project is less than 80% complete, and can only serve just 16% of the over 41,000 population in Damongo township after it’s completion.
He further said the project should never be credited to the member of parliament Hon. Jinapor since he knows nothing about it adding that credit should rather be given to the former Managing Director for Ghana Water Limited Dr. Ing. Braimah Clifford.
“It is a profound lie also, that Hon. Abu Jinapor, the MP for Damongo worked tirelessly to secure the project for the Constituency. If any pound of credit is to be given, it is for Dr. Clifford Braimah and not Hon. Abu Jinapor.l”, he said.
On the source of funding of the project, Mr Kudus revealed that the Damongo NPP Secretary lied when he said the project is being funded by Exim Bank of Ghana and mentioned that the project is solely funded by Ghana Water Limited, spearheaded by the then MD Ing. Clifford Braimah.
“It is equally not true that the project is being funded with a loan facility of GHC 17, 074,113.58 from the EXIM BANK of Ghana. Let me state without shred of doubt that the project under review is being funded fully by the Ghana Water Limited; he said.
Kudus Issifu used the opportunity to assure the people of Damongo and it’s environs that President Mahama and the MD for Ghana Water Company Hon. Adam Mutawakilu won’t forsake the Yagbonwura, the Damonwura, the Busunuwura, the Imams and people of Laribanga and the entirety of the people Damongo and its environs since portable drinking water will surely flow in Damongo before the 4-year tenure of H.E John Dramani Mahama expires.
He disclosed that various funding proposals are being evaluated to get the best and value for money funding arrangements for this project.
“By the end of this year, ‘Insha Allah’, there will be good news for the people of Damongo and its environs” he said.
He further admonished the NPP to admit that they have failed to deliver the Damongo Water Project, that saw the sod-cutting done on 29th July, 2020 and any attempt to redeem the corrosive image of Hon. Abu Jinapor and President Akuffo-Addo will fail on arrival.
It would be recalled that a youth group calling itself the Concerned Citizens of Damongo (CCoD), led by the Damongo constituency secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kadir Rahman, held a press conference over the week, appealing to the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, to put aside partisan interests and commission the Damongo Alternative Water Supply System at Broto for public use since the project was completed in December 2024.
The group noted that the water supply system, funded through a GHS17 million loan facility from Exim Bank and initiated in June 2024 by the Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, aimed at resolving the longstanding water crisis in the municipality.
