The President elect H E. President John Dramani Mahama has requested for more prayers form the King and Overlord of Gonja Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) to able to turn things round so that Ghanaians can live in prosperity and dignity in their own homeland.

He said; “the easy part, which is the elections is over, and the difficult part now begins and to whom much is given, much is expected. The people of Ghana have given us such a dramatic victory and it is an indication that their expectation in us is very high, so we dare not fail Ghanaians”.

The President- elect also said; “We have to rise to up to the occasion and make sure that we are able to turn things around so that Ghanaians can live in prosperity and dignity in their own homeland. And so we have asked for continued prayers to help us navigate the difficult part of restoring our country to being the pride of Africa, the black star of Africa, and I know that I can count on Yagbonwura and all our traditional rulers and all Ghanaians to be able to achieve this”.

H.E. John Dramani Mahama made these comments when selected Paramount Chiefs of Gonja Kingdom delegated by the King and Overlord of Gonja were in Accra on 17th December, 2024 to deliver the heartfelt congratulations of the Gonja Kingdom to President- elect H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

The delegation included Damongowura Boresa (l), Mankpanwura Achode (l), Kpembewura Ndefoso Banbange (lV), the Yapeiwura
Dr. A. B. T Zakariah (representing the Paramount Chief of the Kusawgu Traditional Area) and the Linguist of Yagbonwura Adam Seidu (Adamsey). They were accompanied to the Accra office of H.E. John Dramani Mahama by Members of Parliament (MP’s) and Members of Parliament-elect (MP- elects) from Savannah Region as well as Executives of the Greater Accra branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association.

H.E. John Dramani Mahama rold the delegation that his emphatic victory in the 2024 belongs to the King and Overlord of Gonja Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) because of his prayers and all kinds of spiritual support.

He stated; “this victory belongs to him (Yagbonwura) because when I was elected as the Flagbearer of the NDC, I went back home as my Overlord and head of my traditional area and he received the news with gladness and I know that since that day he has not slept, he has prayed and called for all kinds of spiritual support for me from the clergy, Muslim leaders and our ancestors”.

The President- elect further disclosed that the Yagbonwura has also visited his colleague Chiefs all across the length and breadth of the country and therefore asked the delegation to thank the Overlord of Gonja very much for him.

H.E. John Dramani Mahama added; “I expected that we would rather go home to hand over the victory to him (Yagbonwura) as traditionally I should but the delegation has come”; adding; “so I’m sending a message that during the Christmas I would have time to back home and do the proper greetings traditional and also continue to ask for his prayers.

Mr John Dramani Mahama commiserated with the Yagbonwura for losing his wife on the election day.

The Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area
Damongowura Kelly Boresa (I) who was the head of the delegation chose the Paramount Chief of the Mankpan Traditional Area, Mankpanwura Jakpa Achor-Ade Borenyi (I) to speak on their behalf.

The Mankpanwura said Yagbonwura extends his heart felt to deliver the heartfelt congratulations of the Gonja Kingdom to President- elect H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

He called for patience from the President- elect while he rules Ghana more especially since he has ever been a President before.

The Mankpanwura said there is a saying in Gonja that; “if you go for hunting with a colleague, pray that he kills first and see how he will share the meat, so that it becomes easier for to also share when you kill”.

The Mankpanwura said Yagbonwura requests that H.E. John Dramani Mahama should not foget home as he becomes the next President of Ghana and added that the President elect shuold bot also forget of his brothers and sisters from Gonjaland who have stood by him in his politics.
