The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bole Madam Veronica Alele Heming has urged farmers in the Municipality to liaise with the agricultural extension agents for the registration of their farms in order to benefit from “long dry spell support” from government.
Madam Veronica Alele Heming said this when she was delivering her speech at the 40th Farmers day celebration at Banda-Nkwanta in the Bole Municipality of Savannah Region on the 8th November, 2024.
She told famers in the Bole Municipality that achieving climate responsive agriculture equally requires multi-sectorial collaboration of state institutions which the Bole Municipal Assembly and the Department of Agriculture is leading the charge to deeping the collaboration to curb the impact of climate change.
According to the MCE, empowering farmers through education and training on climate-smart practices by organising workshops, seminar, community education and programs is essential to undoubtedly equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as farmers.
She added the government is also working up a relief package to support farmers due to the effects of the long dry spell in eight regions of the country and the registration of farmers for the relief package is presently in the affected regions.
Madam Veronica Alele Heming said as part of government effort to support farmers under planting for Food and Jobs phase II, 971 (50kg) bags of NPK fertiliser was distributed to 378 farmer(300 males and 78 females) as grant.
She added that through Tree Crop Development Authority, 251 farmers(226 males and 25 females) were supplied with 15,200 grafted mango seedlings to plant 380 acres in the Bole District.
The Bole MCE Commended the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency Alhaji Yusif Sulemana for financing the prize for the First-Runner -Up award winner with a motorbike and all the organisations who helped in cash and kind for the occasion to happened and also thank Nana Akufo-Addo for elevating the Bole District to a Municipal status.
At this year’s famers day in the Bole Municipality, Mr. Stephen Baako from Jama was the 2nd Runner up, Babile Kpiena from Banda-Nkwanta was the 1st Runner up and Robert Farouk Sumbbo from Tinga was the Overall District Best farmer.
