H.E. John Dramani Mahama has on Sunday 22nd September, 2024 cut sod for an ultra-modern sports complex which after its completion will serve the people of Bole and the Savannah Region.
The sod cutting was done by John Dramani Mahama with the support of the Chiefs and Elders of Bole traditional area as well as Regional and Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The sports complex will be a 500-capacity seater Greengrass Astro-Turf with a sports dressing/changing room, resting room and washrooms for sportsmen and women.
The facility will also contain a volleyball and a tennis ball court with a swimming pool embedded.
Additional facilities will be a car park and a basketball pitch.
Speaking at the site of the project John Dramani Mahama said there will be said there will be auxiliary facilities in addition to the standard pitch.
He said the recreational centre is for the whole Savannah Region adding; “anybody from any part of the region can come and host any activity there”.
John Dramani Mahama added what he is doing for the people of Bole which is his home town is different from the AstroTurfs the government is doing and that he is fully funding the project from his own pocket.
He said the government is been selective in constructing the AstroTurfs and has denied the people of Bole because he thinks the people of Bole votes for NDC.
John Dramani Mahama said it was not supposed to be so because the people of Bole also pay taxes and should also benefit from any project that the government is using the taxpayer’s money to do.
H.E. John Dramani Mahama urged the contractor to put in place all necessary measures to make sure the facility fits the highest standard of its kinds.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana said the people of the Constituency have been calling on both the government and former President John Dramani Mahama to construct a befitting pitch for them as the are in dire need of it.
Alhaji Yusif Sulemana added that the pitch they are doing is a recreational one and different from those ones that the government is doing.
He further said when the project is completed, it can contain not less than 500 spectators and there are a lot of activities that will be held there.
He said the government is nepotistic in providing the AstroTurfs as the people of Bole were supposed to get one as others are getting.
The Bole MP said he applied to many government agencies, requesting for an AstroTurf for his people and they denied him. He said he applied to Zongo Development Fund, GNPC etc and he was denied.
He urged the people of his Constituency to vote massively for John Dramani Mahama and he Alhaji Yusif Sulemana to bring more development to the Constituency and Ghana at large.
The contractors “Land Wind Company Ltd” said the project has a lot of auxiliary facilities as mentioned by former President and flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama.
He added that they are working hard to make sure the projected is completed before the December 7th, 2024 general elections.
