Former President John Dramani Mahama has donated food items including a cash amount of GHc2,000 to the King and Overlord of the Gonja Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) towards the celebration of his 1st anniversary as Yagbonwura.
The anniversary which will coincide with the annual Gonjaland Youth Association meeting is slated to take place over this weekend with former President Mahama and many prominent sons of gonjaland in attendance.
The Savannah Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Imoro Seidu aka Man Blessing with his deputy Alhaji Baba Ibn Zakaria on Tuesday 23rd April 2024 on behalf of the former President made the donation comprising of 20 bags of rice, 20 packs of bottled water, a bull and the cash amount to the Yagbonwura and informed him that former President John Dramani is making the presenting the items to him to fully prepare him as many people would be in attendance and food and water should not be a problem for the overlord since it is part of the traditions and culture of the Gonja kingdom to provide for who whoever attends your program.
Alhaji Imoro Seidu also assured the King and Overlord that former President Mahama will on Friday 26th April 2024 be in Damongo until the anniversary is over on Saturday before he departs.
Chairman Imoro Man Blessing used the opportunity to appeal to sons and daughters of the land including supporters of the NPP to maintain the peace and coexistence that is in the Savannah Region to continue during and after the two programs.
He disclosed that a football match between the leadership of the NPP and the NDC will take place in Damongo which he is much aware the NPP will loose by 4 goals to nil.
The Linguist of the Yagbonwura, Sulemana Adams ala Adamsay on behalf of the Yagbonwura expressed his profound gratitude to the NDC flagbearer for always remembering and supporting him. He said the donation out of excitement nearly made the overlord shed tears, adding that the white bull will which signifies goodluck will surely in December signifies the victory of HE John Dramani Mahama since Ndewura Jakpa and everything in Gonjaland will lead and fight for him to rule Ghana again.
Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) was enskinned on Monday 20th March, 2023 at Nyange, the ancient traditional capital of the Gonja people in tandem with the enskinment processes of a Yagbonwura and outdoored on 21st March, 2023 after succeeding the late Overlord Yagbonwura Tutumba Boresa (I) who died in February 2023 at age 90.
