Seidu Abdul Karim aka Kaado who won as Chairman of the Unit Committee of the Sawla Zongo PWD Electoral Area has assured residents of the Electoral Area that the Unit Committee will take charge until the dispute over the Assembly member position is revolved.
Seidu Abdul Karim told Bole based Nkilgi Fm that every Electoral Area deserve representation to promote development and that he as the Chairman of the Unit Committee alongside the four othersl members will do everything to ensure the Electoral Area gest its fair share of development as two of those who contested the Assembly elections Fian-naa Nicholas and Jerkeleh Joseph are locked up in a ‘fight’ over is the rightful winner of the 19th December, 2023 District level elections in the Sawla Zongo PWD Electoral Area.
The Chairman of the Unit Committee of the Sawla Zongo/ PWD Electoral Area said they will work to meet their functions one of which is mobilising members of the Unit for the implementation of self-help and development projects and to monitor the implementation of self-help and development projects.
He said another major function they seek to achieved is to provide a focal point for the discussion of local problems and take remedial action where necessary or make recommendations to the Assembly where appropriate.
A Tamale High Court placed an injunction on the inauguration of one Mr Jerkeleh Joseph as the Assemblyman for Sawla Zongo/ PWD Electoral Area in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
Salisu Be-Awuribe who is the Lawyer of one Fian-naa Nicholas, a contestant of the 19th December, 2023 District Level Elections speaking to Bole based Nkilgi Fm said the court placed the injunction on inauguration of Jerkeleh Joseph an Assemblyman for Zongo/ PWD Electoral Area because there was over voting at the St Augustines Poling Station of the Electoral Area which has not been corrected by the Electoral Commission.
Lawyer Salisu Be-Awuribe said there is no winner for the Sawla Zongo/ PWD Electoral Area until the electoral fraud of over voting is corrected by the Electoral Commission.
He disclosed that the Electoral Commission in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District has been served the injunction by bailiffs of the Tamale High Court, and that the bailiffs are trying to locate Jerkeleh Joseph to serve him the injunction.
Lawyer Salisu Be-Awuribe added that both the Electoral Commission and Mr Jerkeleh Joseph will be in contempt of the Tamale High court if he (Jerkeleh Joseph) makes an appearance at the venue for the inauguration of Assembly members in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
According Lawyer Salisu Be-Awuribe, his client Fian-naa K. Nicholas has filed an affidavit and demanded for the 19th December, 2023 elections at the St Augustines Polling station results to be nullified so that the winner of the Sawla Zongo/PWD Electoral Area in Sawla will be declared based on the three other polling stations of the Electoral Area, or fresh election are conducted at the said Polling Station the Electoral fraud occurred.
Mr Jerkeleh Joseph was served the injunction from the Tamale High court on the morning of the day of inauguration (12th February, 2024) of the Sawla-Tuna-KalbaDistrict Assembly.
Meanwhile Assembly members of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly were inaugurated on 12th February, 2024 but the election of a Presiding Member (PM) was postponed.
