A former Savannah Region Deputy Secretary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Jebuni Sylvester and 120 others defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The defectees consist of branch executives, communicators and elders of the NPP within Tuna, Soma, Jang and Baadigi communities.
Mr Jebuni Sylvester who was until recently the Upper West Regional Secretary of the NPP Communication Team took a heavy bite at his former party for not honouring its heroes.
He said he and the 120 others crossing to the NDC because “our Elders tells us that the memory of the dead is a warning to the living”.
He cited examples like Mr Isaac Kipo Sunyehzi and the late Nongiri Naa Vugu who were former parliamentary candidates of the NPP for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and who have suffered for the NPP but were later suffocated under a government of the NPP.
He lamented how two of party’s staunched members, Vugu Naa and Mr Kipo Sunyehzi, were badly treated and negleted.
He disclosed; “for example, we saw how he (Vugu Naa) was frustrated by the party till he passed on. None of the national executives came for his funeral. As if that isn’t enough, take a look at the status of Mr Kipo Sunyazi (former DCE under Kufour) under the NPP today. He is on social media ranting over how the NPP snubbed him to his faith. But we (defectees) know ourselves and what we want. We have left the NPP for good”.
He stated, “If we belong to that party (NPP) our end will be like hiw they (Vugu Naa and Kipo Sunyehzi) ended and we don’t want to end that way”.
He added that; “we have now located our roots, we don’t belong to the NPP” amidst cheers and dancing.
The Regional Chairman of the NDC for Savannah region, Alhaji Seidu Imoro welcomed the over hundred NPP Members that defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and directed that the Constituency and branch executives involve them in all party activities.
He assured the defectors that they have been accepted wholeheartedly by the NDC and entreated others to join because NDC is “a vehicle that do not get full”.
The defectors were advised to be firm in their decisions and be the crusaders for the change by the Savannah regional Communication Officer of the NDC Mr R. A. Jalil.
He assigned each defector to bring ten members each from the stock of the NPP.
The Constituency Chairman of NDC for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Alhaji Osman Salia promised to support and protect the defectors from the evil hands of the NPP.
He added that his doors were opened for new members.
Mr Tomah Salifu who was the Convener of a Health Walk in Tuna on 10th February, 2024 dubbed; ” 24Hr Health Walk” on Saturday 10th February, 2024 said, the NPP in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba will collapse after similar events are organized within the constituency.
He added the team was on a fishing assignment and the Constituency executives should support them to work.
The Savannah Regional Chairman of the NDC Alhaji Imoro Seidu aka Man Blessing declared the program as a success and pledged his support to the team.
The MP for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency Hon Andrews Dari Chiwetey admonished the defectors to remain resolute and firm and should not succumbed to any intimidation from members of the NPP. He assured them of their fair share of the national cake when H.E John Dramani Mahama becomes president of the Republic of Ghana.
