The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency, Hon John Abdulai Jinapor has on behalf of the Jinapor family commissioned an astro turf pitch complex in honour of their father Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor (II) in Buipe.
The pitch which is named after Buipewura Jinapor (II) has axillary facilities including 100 seater spectators stand, wired fence and a washroom.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony the MP for Yapei- Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor said the rationale behind the construction of the AstroTurf is to promote football in the constituency and also to identify talents.
He used the opportunity to thank his elder brother Professor Ahmed Jinapor and his younger brother and MP for Damongo Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor for their immense contribution in the construction of the facility.
He cautioned however that the facility is a family contribution geared towards sports promotion in the constituency and beyond and should never be politicised.
Hon John Abdulai Jinapor hinted of the construction of a volleyball court attached to the field in the coming weeks as it is not only football that they are promoting.
The President of the Ghana Football Association for Northern Region (including Savannah & North East Regions), Alhaji Abu Hassan Rhizo in a speech commended the Jinapor family for lifting high the flag of sports in the Savannah Region the construction of the facility.
Alhaji Rhizo indicated that football scouts across the world are happy seeing videos of potential footballers on football pitches that are well constructed and therefore used the opportunity to appeal to the people of Buipe to take good care of the pitch.
He further appealed to the Jinapor family to construct a dressing room attached to the pitch since very soon division one league matches will commence in the field.
A ceremonial match between Buipe Scorpions FC and Blue City FC of Busunu in the Damongo constituency ended in 2-1 in favour of the home team.
