The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bole-Bamboi constituency Alhaji Yusif Sulemana has described former president John Dramani Mahama as a true and honest politician who cannot be compared to others.
Hon. Alhaji Yusif Sulemana made these statements on the floor of parliament during the 2024 budget debate on Thursday 23rd November, 2023.
According to the Boe MP, the Deputy Finance minister, Hon. Abena Osei Asare said former president John Dramani Mahama admitted COVID was a crisis.
He added; “what an honest person, what an honest politician that he admitted that indeed we are in crisis, that cannot be said about other politicians. What she didn’t tell us and I quote Hon. Atta Akyea that you measure a man when he is in trouble. Indeed we are going to measure you in trouble as against neighbouring countries and presidents.”
Hon YusifSulemana said; “Mr. Speaker, I am going to use facts and not conjectures to measure the NPP in how they dealt with this crisis”.
The Bole MP said; “COVID did not just jump Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Togo to affect only Ghana, it affected all of us together and that is where you need to see leadership, and I put it to you, using inflation to measure you as compared to other leaders of different countries.
He said; “Listen to your records, Côte d’Ivoire in 2022 inflation rate was about 6.3%, Kenya was less than 10%, Burkina Faso was 18.2%, Nigeria less than 22.8%, Mr. Speaker but Ghana today is 35%”.
Hon. Yusif, said this and many other factors enumerated by former president John Dramani Mahama indicates a true and honest person who speaks to the facts of Ghana’s ailing economy and should be the one to fix the mess created by the NPP government.
