The Paramount Chief of the Kong Traditional Area of Gonja Kongwura Jinkurge (I) has called on the Paramount Chief of the Bole Traditional, Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso (I) to assist the Kong Traditional Area to recapture its past status, glory and be properly recognised among the sons of Ndewura Jakpa, the founder of the Gonja Kingdom.

Kongwura Jinkurge (i), made this appeal on 15th October, 2023 during the celebration of “Kong Damba Festival 2023” under the theme; “Unity, Peace and Development: The Youth as a factor”.

Whiles addressing the Chairman for the occasion, Dr Prince Wassajja Omulangirize, of Buganda Kingdom. Ugandan, Kongwura said;
“Mr Chairman, I Kongwura, counts on the support of my dear brother, the Bolewura, to assist Kong to recapture its past status, glory and be properly recognized among the sons of Ndewura Jakpa, the founder of Gonja.”

According to Kongwura Jinkurge (I), Kong is one of the seven divisions of the kingdom of Gonja and as the Paramount Chief, he has supported in the struggle and creation of the Savannah Region and was made the Chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the region. He disclosed that he played roles such as being a member of the then Northern Regional House of Chiefs, an elected member of the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs, Board member for Northern Development Authority and also a Board Member of the Export and Import Bank (EXIM Bank).

The Paramount Chief of the Kong Traditional Area added that; “I’m happy to say that, from the experience gained I am now a client and cultivates 30 acres of mangoes to boost the Export needs of the Savannah Region and Ghana as a whole”

On some of the challenges his traditional area is bedeviled with, he said; “Kong is saddled with many challenges and these include the terrible road you used into the town, lack of a standard school, lack of a clinic, lack of potable water and the town is not connected to the national grid and also mobile network connectivity”.

He said; “These are basic necessities for the development of every community and we are making frantic efforts to get these basic needs of life into the area”

Kongwura Jinkurge (I) used the occasion to solicit for investment. He said; “the Damba festival is a key feature of our culture. It is not just gathering a testimony of our resilience. As a community we are blessed with rich forests and gold, stakeholders are invited to see our environment and consider the help to offer to develop the area to catch up with the rest of Ghana.”

Kongwura Jinkurge (I), thanked all the dignitaries who honored his invitation for the Damba of the Traditional Area.

He said;
“I Kongwura on behalf of the people of Kong have no words to express our joy but simply say thanks to all distinguished guest present.and particularly Prof. Dr.Prince Wassajja Omulangirize of Buganda Kingdom. Uganda.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana during his address acknowledge the presence of Prof. Dr Prince Wassajja Omulangirize of Buganda Kingdom. Ugandan.

He said; “Indeed I know Uganda very well. I’ve stayed in Kampala for 10 days and I have a number of friends in Uganda, and I know the culture of Uganda it’s no different from Ghana I’ve been the for 10 days and have friends there so we appreciate your effort to come from East Africa to Ghana..this really shows that you really love Ghana and I can assure you when ever i will be in Uganda and wherever you are. I will find you”.

On behalf of the former president John Dramani Mahama, Hon
Alhaji Yusif Sulemana said; “I know and assure you that former President John Dramani Mahama
will win the next year’s election with every indication showing he will become the President again, and most of these basic necessities for the development of every community, like the terrible road you used into the town, lack of a standard school, lack of a clinic, lack of potable water and the town is not connected to the national grid and also mobile network connectivity will be tackled in the next two years”

The Chairman for the occasion, Prof. Dr Prince Wassajja Omulangirize of Buganda Kingdom. Ugandan, representing his father the King of Buganda Kingdom, Ugandan in a passionate speech to the youth on the theme for the Kong Damba festival, admonished them to be steadfast and determine to development their Community as power belongs to the youth. He as well encouraged the youth to be critical thinkers of their time to ensure the efficient use of the mass resources that abounds in their area.

He said as a young Prince who can become a King in the future, the role of the youth is very dear to him, because they are the pivote of every success of development and future leaders.

Dr Prince Wassajja Omulangirize was full of praises for Kongwura Jinkurge (I) and his people for the warm reception given to him and his siblings as well as his highly powered entourage from Uganda and hopes to visit Kong regularly as this was his first time in West Africa.
