The Assembly Member for Gindabo West in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of Savannah Region Mr Braimah Abass partnered with Bless Eye medical personnels to give residents of Gindabou free eye care medical support and treatment on 13th May, 2023.
Mr Braiman Abass in his earlier speech to Bole based Nkilgi Fm stated that, a whole lot of people in his electoral area are faced with eye challenges, but he has been able to solicit aid from Bless Eye care to help his people.
He said many residents were treated successfully with most gaining back their sight whiles others also had medications to take home through the Bless Eye care medical screening team.
He thank the Eye Care team for their enormous support and contribution to the successful exercise.
The Assemblyman said; “The people of Gindabou are very grateful to you because people seeking eye care attention have to
travel as much as 55 to 60 kilometers just to check their eye sights.”
Mr Braiman Abass indicated that, Gindabou has no eye clinic and with the many cases realize so far, he is asking stakeholders to come to their aid by providing Gindabou with an eye clinic to curtail the problem of the challenges residents face with their eye sights, which is very alarming
According to him majority of the
people in Gindabou having challenges with their eyes is as a result of the work they do for a living, which is farming and charcoal burning, forgetting they have to protect themselves during working hours from getting these eyes challenges.
Pastor John Mulnye the fountain gate chapel victory pastor of Gindabo also added his voice by first extending their gratefulness to the eye care medical screening team for their good work done for coming to offer such help to the people of Gindabo zone
Pastor John Mulnye said, his school also benefited from such screening and he has over (200) students and out of this (200), before the closing of the screening about 85 students were detected to have problems with their eyes and challenges and were given medications for free of charge.
He said, personally as the pastor of fountain gate chapel, he also benefited more and related it to all his students who had the treatment saying it will have been his responsibility to take care of that but the eye care medical screening team has come to save him from that problem and stress involved.
Dr Zakaria the eye specialist added his voice in addressing the eye issues and how to help prevent the eye from getting affect said, on the average with the rough counting they got (762) but sometimes when you go back to look at it better it may be more than what he just mentioned.
Dr. Zakaria said, the team was a bit afraid earlier when they came in the morning as they were thinking that they were coming to meet empty spaces and a no show for them but little did they know that there was much work to be done because people were still in their houses waiting for someone to come and go back to tell them the people are there before they will start coming but in all as the first time in a community the average was good
Dr Zakaria said they were not surprise at all in most of the cases that came but were really taking aback by the rate of carteracts in the community which is actually too high.
He also stated that, within the adults was tracoma within the children group as well and it’s alarming because adult with carteracts they know is because of aging but within children is very alarming and so they will consider coming into the community very often but if they do not do it then he is afraid with time to come the community will end up having a needless blind people.
