The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency (same as North Gonja District) has called for an immediate end to the attacks on it’s members by people he described as “hoodlums” within the NPP.
The NDC Secretary for the Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency Mr Gazari Muniru in a statement on 16th May, 2020 and copied to Bole based Nkilgi FM said the call has been necessitated by the attacks on the Deputy Organiser of the party in the Constituency Mr. Yaamusah Abdul Rashid by “some hoodlums within the NPP”.
“These attack came when he led a team of technical men to help connect the small town water system in Mankarigu to the national grid after area was connected to the grid which hitherto was operating on solar”; Mr Gazari said.
He added that the people of the area made series of passionate appeals to the Member of Parliament Hon Shaibu Mahama to help ameliorate their suffering by connecting the small town water system to the national grid.
“These criminals attacked the team of experts and those leading them to the location to do the connection, leading the the assault on the deputy organizer. The case have since been reported to the security at the Mankarigu police post” the Secretary said.
Mr Gazari Muniru explained;
“As a law abiding party, we call on all party faithfuls to remain calm as we seek a lasting solution to the matter and call on all stakeholders within the constituency to advise such characters to desist from such unwarranted attacks”.
“To prevent mayhem you need to appreciate what causes it”; he added.
The Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency NDC Secretary said the party will not tolerate such attacks any longer and will resist and protect ourselves anytime such hoodlums tried it again.
Bole based Nkilgi FM broke the news on 15th May, 2020 that NDC and NPP members clashed over a small water system repairs at Mankarigu in the Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency.
It is said the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Hon Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei gave out money for repair works on the Mankarigu water system and some engineers went there to start work only for some NPP members to invade the place asking them to stop work with the reason that the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the North Gonja District Mr Adam Eliasu aka Red Bawah is not aware of them. This resulted in a clash.
Meanwhile an NPP Activist Fuseini Qudus has said that the problem was started by NDC members.
He wrote; “The repairs of the Borehole was started by the NPP to some point that their materials got short, so they left it to be continued today (15th May, 2020) only to get today and saw these NDC guys all over there with the intention of repairing the borehole. So they NPP guys asked them to stop and they (NDC) refused resulting to the clashes. One of the NDC guy got wounded and is on his way to report to the Police”.
