The King and Overlord of Gonja Yagbonwura Boresah Tuntumba has told the youth of Damongo to exercise patience and promised that he will ensure the decision of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council to spread regional departments across the districts is reversed.
Speaking through his Linguist Alhaji Afuli Losina at the Jakpa Palace during a meeting with over 300 Youth of Damongo, also attended by all the sub-Chiefs of Damongo yesterday, the Overlord said regional offices were not moved away from Tamale, Wa, Kumasi and so on when they were named as capitals of some regions and never will it happen in the Savannah region.
The Yagbonwura thanked the youth for not taking the law into their hands but decided to come to his Palace to inform him about the decision of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council.
He urged the youth to continue to respect the authority and not to take the law into their own hands.
Yagbonwura pledged to meet the President Nana Akufo-Addo for a thorough discussion of the issue.
Explaining the reasons the decision to spread the various departments of the Savannah Region did not sit well with the Youth Of Damongo, Chief Alanchan said there is no region in Ghana that has its offices spread to districts and that what has not happened in other Regions should not happen in the Savannah Region.
Speaking to the Bole based Nkilgi Fm after the meeting between the Yagbonwura and the Youth of Damongo, Chief Alanchan said the Yagbonwura told them no one discussed the issue with him. He said Tamale is the most develpoed city in Northern Ghana more because a decision was taken to center all offices in Tamale.
Later in the evening of yesterday the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council (SRCC) was summoned to the Palace by the Yagbonwura after he heard they had announced they will have a Press Conference that would address the concerns of the youth.
At a close door meeting Yagbonwura reportedly expressed his displeasure and also put before the Savannah Regional Minister the concerns of the youth of Damongo.
The Minister Hon Salifu Adam Braimah together with some staff of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council addressed the media at the Jakpa Palace concerning the meeting they had with the Yagbonwura.
The Regional Minister said the decision to a spread offices
of the Regional Coordinating Council was not taken on Damongo by the
Coordinating Council but from the Presidency even before the
creation of the region.
Mr Salifu said it is not only the Savannah region that is going to have some offices moved away from the capital but all the newly created regions.
He explained that the decision to spread the offices apply to all the six newly created Regions and that President Nana Akufo-Addo made its clear before the creation of the new regions and everybody heard it. He said they are just implementing the President’s vision and that the decision to reverse anything should be between the Overlord Yagbonwura ans the President since the Yagbonwura has made it clear he is not happy with the arrangement.
He therefore pleaded with the Yagbonwura to put the issue before President Nana Akufo-Addo and plead with him to reconsider his decision especially in the Savannah region.
Mr Braimah advised the media to also help in educating the masses about the policies of the government since that will always help the people to understand the issues better.
