A total of 749 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in 31 schools in the West Gonja Municipality have been presented with Personal Protective Equipments (PPE’s) by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly.

The equipments include Veronica buckets, liquid soaps, tissues, nose masks and gun thermometers are expected to be distributed in all the 31 Junior High Schools in the municipality.

Presenting the PPE’s at a short ceremony at the Kurabaso Junior High School (JHS) in Damongo through the Municipal education directorate, the MCE for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Hon. Saeed Jibril Muhazu commended the government for being proactive in the fight against the Corvid-19 pandemic.

He said this is the second leg of support from the government in assisting the education sector after distribution of PPE’s to the tertiary and Senior High Schools (SHS) before they were reopened.

He said even though it has never been easy in situations like this during situations like this, the government is doing everything possible to curb the spread of the deadly disease.

He used the opportunity to appeal to the candidates who will be writing the exam in the next three weeks to follow the protocols put in place by the government to reduce the spread of the Corvid-19 pandemic.

He further appealed for the temperature of the students to be taken before and after classes using the gun thermometers presented to the schools.

Receiving the items on behalf of the schools, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr Akey Ferguson thanked the government for the effort made so far in combating the pandemic and assured the MCE that the PPE’s would be used for the intended purposes and used the opportunity to call on parents to make sure their wards who are yet to report to their various schools to ensure they do so since the BECE is weeks away to kick start and further assured parents that the Ghana Education Service will do everything to ensure adequate preparation is put in place for the examination to take place.

He further reiterated the call on the pupils to follow all protocols since corona virus is yet to get medication that can cure the disease.

Schools in the country were closed down in March this year by the government as a measure to curb the spread of the Covid -19 pandemic.
